AMNA SALEEM

Hello,

I am a Scottish Pakistani screenwriter and journalist based back home in Glasgow after a near decade in London.

My first big break came in 2018 when Rose d’Or winner Ed Morrish challenged me to write a thirty-minute comedy pilot in just two weeks. That script became Beta Female, which went on to air for two acclaimed seasons on BBC Radio 4. Since then, I’ve been commissioned and developed projects with Mammoth Screen, FilmNation, Lime, BBC Studios, Blazing Griffin among a few others and my BBC comedy short went on to receive an RTS nomination.

As a journalist, I’ve written for The Guardian, BBC, GQ, New Statesman, BuzzFeed, Glamour, HuffPost and more. I currently write a lighthearted monthly column for Hyphen magazine and guest on BBC Scotland Radio, where I mix cultural insight with a sense of humour.

My essays have been featured in the bestselling anthologies It’s Not About the Burqa (highlighted by The Guardian as “persuasive, funny and brutally honest”) and Who’s Loving You, where my rom-com short story Rani & Raf was recognised across both social and traditional media.

My work on race, culture, and misogyny has resonated internationally — including an unexpected segment of The View where Whoopi Goldberg referenced my social commentary and discussed one of my articles.

I’m happiest when creating colourful worlds, developing nuanced characters and binge-watching my favourite shows (I go outside sometimes too).

Thanks for popping by!
